Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has one last chance to finish his season on a high.

Only this time, it won’t involve a soccer ball but rather a much smaller dimpled variety when he tees it up in the Celebrity Pro-Am at the BMW PGA Championship on Wednesday.

The suave Spaniard isn’t a complete stranger to tournament golf having played in the Pro-Am at last year’s Irish Open and is now ready to make his debut in the traditional curtain-raiser for the European Tour event at Wentworth which is the first of eight Rolex Series events.

Guardiola, who plays off a 14 handicap, will play alongside world number 10 Tommy Fleetwood, former Southampton star Matt Le Tissier and ex-Manchester United and City goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.

It is believed that Guardiola was on the golf course with Fleetwood that Sunday afternoon when Manchester United were stunned by West Bromwich Albion, a result which handed Manchester City the Premier League title a few days earlier than anticipated.

The field, made up of TV, sports and music stars including other big names in the soccer world like Alan Shearer, Paul Scholes, Teddy Sheringham, Robbie Fowler and Jamie Redknapp, will tackle the famous West Course in Surrey on Wednesday morning.

Regarded as one of the best players of his generation, Guardiola spent the majority of his career at Barcelona where he won the 1992 European Cup and four successive La Liga titles from 1991 to 1994. After a record-breaking season with City, the 47-year-old can’t wait to make his mark at Wentworth.

“I’ve heard some great things about the BMW PGA Championship and I’m looking forward to testing myself in the Pro-Am. After winning the Premier League, it will be a nice way to finish a great season.

“I know there are quite a few sports stars and former footballers in the field, so I think it will be very competitive and hopefully my golf will live up to the event.”
