A man killed his partner and then turned the gun on himself after hugging his son for the last time in a murder-suicide in KwaZulu-Natal

The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Phoenix Operations Centre received multiple calls for assistance at approximately 05:57 on Wednesday, 25 January, after a man murdered a woman on Goslen Place, KwaZulu-Natal.

Emergency services respond to reports of murder-suicide

RUSA medics and available reaction officers were dispatched to the scene of the shooting.

While on their way, they received updated information that the shooter had turned the gun on himself in his flat on Hoplen Place.

RUSA members arrived at Goslen Place to find the body of a woman in her late 30’s lying on the road outside her property.

She was shot in the head with a single bullet and pronounced dead due to the severity of her injuries.

Her 39-year-old partner’s body was discovered in his flat, one street away from the initial shooting.

Man confronts woman before shooting her

The man allegedly confronted the woman outside her home, where they began to argue.

He pulled out a gun and shot her before fleeing to his apartment.

The deceased’s teenage daughter from a previous relationship was present at the time of the incident.

When he returned home, the man asked his mother for a glass of water and asked to see his 13-year-old son from his first marriage.

Man hugs his son after committing murder

He is said to have hugged his son before shooting himself in the head with a.38 Special.

The man purchased the firearm on Saturday, according to his mother.

The weapon is thought to be unlicensed, though this has yet to be confirmed.

Exact circumstances of the murder-suicide was not immediately determined.
