Shortly afterwards, police stopped the vehicle and searched the occupants before arresting Sthokoza Cele, 47. Police charged Cele with murder and attempted murder.

According to police spokesperson constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, the incidents Cele allegedly perpetrated happened on 20 February last year. He was with an unknown accomplice.

“The victims, Khulekani Langa, 37, and his two-year-old son, were at their home when two men accosted them. While attending to them, the suspects opened fire, fatally wounding Langa.

“He sustained multiple gunshot wounds [and died on the scene]. The suspects also [allegedly] shot the victim’s son in the arm, wounding him. Emergency responders took the boy to the hospital for medical attention.”
