A man was left seriously injured after his bakkie crashed into a bus on Old Man Road in Ottawa, KwaZulu-Natal on Friday morning, 23 December 2022.
Passenger flees the scene after bakkie crashes into bus
Residents and passing motorists called Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at 00:23 to request help at the scene.
When police arrived, they discovered that the driver of a grey Nissan Hardbody bakkie had suffered serious injuries.
While being treated by Medics from a private ambulance service, his passenger fled the scene.
The bus driver informed Reaction Officers that the bakkie was approaching him at high speed when it veered into his lane and crashed into the side of his vehicle.
Before coming to a stop, the bakkie spun several times.
The seriously injured man was stabilised on the scene before being transported by ambulance to the hospital.
Other accidents reported
Several accidents were reported on Friday, in another incident, eight people died in three separate crashes in the Free State.
A collision between two minibus taxis on the N6 between Reddersburg and Bloemfontein killed five people.
In the second incident, a taxi and a car collided on the N6 near Smithfield, killing one person.
A truck and two cars collided on the N3 road close to Villiers, killing two people in the third accident reported in the area.
