13 Injured in serious collision between taxi and light motor vehicle

Paramedics attended to a serious vehicle accident involving a taxi in Durban. The first responders treated the injured on the scene.

Thirteen people sustained minor to serious injuries in an accident involving a taxi and a light motor vehicle on the M4 Ruth First Freeway in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday.

The first emergency responders who arrived on the scene found a female motorist with severe injuries trapped inside her vehicle.

Patients admitted at various Durban hospitals

ALS Paramedics Medical Services spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics used the Jaws of Life to free the woman. Emergency personnel later transported her to the Netcare Umhlanga Hospital, north of Durban.

“Paramedics used life-saving interventions to stabilise the woman after using hydraulic rescue equipment to free her from the wreckage. They stabilised the patient on the scene and transported her to a hospital for further medical treatment.

“Emergency responders stabilised twelve taxi passengers also injured in the collision. Paramedics transported the patients to a nearby Durban hospital for further treatment.”

Jamieson said the exact cause of the accident is unknown. KZN police were not immediately available for comment.

Six learners killed, 13 injured in horror truck accident outside Mthatha

Another horrific accident on SA’s roads has claimed the lives of six learners. It comes after a truck collided with a bakkie on the T30 road in Buntingville, Ngqeleni, outside Mthatha in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday.

The truck reportedly rear-ended the bakkie transporting learners from Ndamase Senior Secondary School while stationary. The truck also ploughed into several learners walking on the side of the road after reportedly experiencing brake failure.

Thirteen learners, aged 14 to 18, suffered serious injuries in the crash. The learners went to Canzibe Provincial Hospital and Mthatha Regional Hospital for further treatment.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana confirmed a case of culpable homicide against the truck driver.
