Police: Taxi driver killed and two women injured in a drive-by shooting

A 60-year-old taxi driver was killed in a drive-by shooting on the R72 near Chalumna in the Eastern Cape on Thursday morning.

The police in the Eastern Cape are investigating a drive-by shooting that took place on the R72 near Chalumna on Thursday morning, 3 February. A 60-year-old taxi was shot and killed.

POLICE HUNT FOR TAXI DRIVER’S KILLERS

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in the Eastern Cape Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said officers were alerted to a shooting near Chalumna at approximately 11:30 on Thursday.

“At the scene, a 60-year-old driver of a white Toyota Quantum sustained several gunshot wounds in the upper body and was declared dead,” said Kinana.

Two women passengers also sustained gunshot wounds in the attacked and were rushed to hospital.

According to the police report, the details are scant but it has been reported that three suspects travelling in a white Toyota Corolla were involved in the shooting.

Kinana said SAPS is appealing to members of the public that may have information that could aid the investigation and lead to the arrest of the suspects.
