UNION BUILDINGS (In Other News) – South African President Jacob Zuma has apologised to his country for not doing his worst. Speaking during a live broadcast from the Union Buildings yesterday, a disappointed Zuma cited a heavy workload and various overseas commitments for his poor performance.

“I don’t want to make excuses but I have been busy of late,” he said adding “Running a country is hard; bringing it down even harder.”

Zuma said sacking his finance minister Nhlanhla Nene didn’t have the desired effect, but that he was happy at least “some damage was done”.

“Nene was making a lot of good decisions,” he said. “We simply cannot have that.”

Zuma supporters have meanwhile urged South Africans not to lose faith in their president saying he “has what it takes” to lead the country down a slippery slope.

“The Zuma I know is a resilient leader,“ said SAA Chair Dudu Myeni.

“He’ll take us down or die trying.”
