Teachers: Netflix will ruin 2016 matric results

JOHANNESBURG (In Other News) – Not everyone is happy about the arrival of Netflix in South Africa. Yesterday the National Professional Teachers’ Organisation of South Africa (NAPTOSA) slammed the streaming service claiming it could disrupt the class of 2016.

“It’s reckless and irresponsible,” said the organisation’s president Dr Anthea Cereseto. “To launch a service as effective as Netflix at the start of the year undermines our work before we’ve even begun.”

Ceresto said shows like Dexter and The 100 were “extremely popular” amongst pupils adding she doesn’t know why Netflix doesn’t add more educational programming to the roster.

“Would it kill them to show William Smith’s Learning Channel?” she said.

Netflix programme manager Nic Goldberg addressed Ceresto’s concerns saying the company definitely plans to add more “academic” shows to its bouquet.

“The Big Bang Theory is probably the number one educational programme in the world at this point,” said Goldberg.

“We’ll stream it by the time 2017’s curriculum rolls around,” he said.
