Mbeki eyes local government elections with a batch of explosive letters

JOHANNESBURG (In Other News) – Giving his political career a much needed shot in the arm, former president Thabo Mbeki has released the first of a series of letters to clear his name. Analysts believe the timing of letters points to a “complex and multi-layered” attempt from the ousted leader to regain power.

“In true Mbeki form he announced his return with a highly intellectual body of work which leaves us even more mystified as to the character of the man,” said political expert Professor Bill Yates.

Mbeki’s office said the former president will release a “letter per week” in the run-up to the 2016 elections after which the communication will revert back to simply being a newsletter.

Team Mbeki has also rubbished claims that the former president is “living in the past” and should just “let it go”. Campaign manager Justice Radebe said people are clearly jealous of the free time the former president has to sit down for hours and reminisce about days gone by.

“Haters gonna hate,” said Radebe. “Come Election Day Thabo Mbeki will laugh last and laugh hard. Why? Because he remembered to write things down.”

The first letter titled “Mbeki’s Letter #1” was released on Monday.
