Israel makes substantial HIV breakthrough, but BDS and boycotters stand in the way

A major development in the fight against HIV poses quite the dilemma for those looking to boycott Israeli researchers, as this could prevent the research from saving millions of lives.

Israel makes substantial HIV b

Ok look, we’re not here to debate whether the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement and PACBI (Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel) are right or wrong, or whether their apparent anti-semitism should be indulged by intellectuals; what we do know is that the fight against HIV is one that needs every resource available.

Israeli scientists from the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev have made a significant breakthrough in HIV research. Their findings, according to Breitbart, could result in a “revolutionary diagnosis and the key to the clinical solution that will prevent infection with HIV and will destroy the deadly virus.”

Pretty neat huh? Well, it gets better; according to reports by i24 News, the university’s department of microbiology, immunology and genetics’ – those fighting for the BDS movement are far more likely to be researching creationism and hokum rather than sound science that could actually change the world – Dr Ran Taube and his team discovered similarities between HIV and leukemia.

Alonside Dr Uri Rubio od Soroka University’s medical centre, the research aims at destroying AIDS as well as rare forms of mixed-lineage leukemia found in children.

Ok so all of this sounds amazing and for the first time in history there might very well be a way to effectively eradicate AIDS , but thanks to BDS and PACBI, some global scientists and their departments will not be taking part in the research; slowing down the entire process and potentially leading to the death of millions more.

Just in case you need a quick refresher course on what the BDS movement stands for, here it is.

“…all Israeli academic institutions, unless proven otherwise, are subject to boycott because of their decades-old, deep and conscious complicity in maintaining the Israeli occupation and denial of basic Palestinian rights, whether through their silence, actual involvement in justifying, whitewashing or otherwise deliberately diverting attention from Israel’s violations of international law and human rights, or indeed through their direct collaboration with state agencies in the planning and implementation of projects that contravene international law and Palestinian rights. Accordingly, these institutions, all their activities, and all the activities they sponsor or support must be boycotted.”

Regardless of what you believe to be true, the point here is. If and when these scientists make a breakthrough in HIV research, will the BDS and PACBI movements want to share in the spoils?
