A new column claims that, just because the constitution stops Jacob Zuma from staying in office as president of SA, it doesn’t stop him from remaining on as ANC president and pulling strings behind the scenes.
BusinessTech reports that the piece, first published in the Rand Daily Mail, highlights the fact that the ANC’s constitution does not restrict anyone from remaining leader indefinitely. It asks whether el presidente can actually afford not to be in a position of power, considering the court cases against him piling up; some of the more prevalent threats include Nkandla – both the impending legal action as well as the actual cost of running it — and the Gupta scandals.
RDM reports that Zuma has a lot of support from both the women’s league – he voiced his support for a female president in Mzanzi, winning them over pretty easily – and the Premier League – not the football competition, no. The Premier League is a coalition of the premiers of Mpumulanga, the Free State and North West –.
News24 reported earlier that a source within the ANC’s tripartite alliance leaked information claiming that money is being funnelled to the Premier League to buy votes.
“Currently, all indications are that the ANC is not capable of holding free and fair election within its elective conferences; a situation which favours Zuma,” the column in RDM read.
So, here’s an outline of the plot to allegedly ensure a third term in office for Jacob Zuma:
All this while the ANC’s support nationally is slipping faster than you can say politburo.
