Various religious and traditional leaders in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal held a special prayer for former Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize to strengthen his bid for ANC Presidency.

This comes as the African National Congress (ANC) in the eThekwini region announced that it is endorsing Mkhize and the party’s treasurer Paul Mashatile as President and Deputy President respectively.

The prayer was held in the posh Coastlands Hotel in Umhlanga, Durban on Thursday, 22 September.

Despite resigning as Health Minister because of the Digital Vibes scandal it looks like Mkhize still has influence in KZN.

The ANC will hold its 55th National Conference in December 2022 and a number of provinces have already endorsed President Cyril Ramaphosa for a second term and it is not yet clear whether KZN will do the same.

KZN REGION ENDORSES MASHATILE

As previously reported, following the Festival of Ideas that was held by the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal on the 19th and 20th of September, the ANC Regional Executive Committee in eThekwini Region convened a meeting of chairs and secretaries and endorsed Mkhize and Mashatile.

The festival, which was robust in nature and full of energy, reminded comrades that many people throughout the country are pinning their hopes on the positive outcomes of the 55th ANC National Conference.

ANC Regional Spokesperson, Mlondi Mkhize said the festival felt that there was a strong public perception that the ANC, as a governing party, no longer focused on the real issues of service delivery and improving the lives of the people.

Mkhize said critically, the festival agreed that a new President and new Deputy President are needed to refocus the ANC and ultimately change the future of South Africa.

“In this regard, chairs and secretaries agreed on the names of Dr Zweli Mkhize as future  President and Paul Mashatile as Deputy President.

“For other positions, the REC will engage other regions as guided by the ANC Provincial Executive Committee.”

According to the Regional Executive Committee the festival agreed on the need to elect leaders who will work hard to ensure that the ANC remains an organisation that is in touch with the needs of the people and becomes a catalyst for socio-economic development.

“We need leaders who will work hard to resuscitate the old ANC culture that made no one feel alienated from the ANC for whatever reason. We want a President who will ensure that the ANC remains a home for all.”
