Jacob Zuma is a guaranteed show stopper and a recent ANC visit to his Nkandla homestead was no exception. eThekwini ANC councillors converged to hand over a bull as a sign of their appreciation for the ex-president.

Over 40 vehicles formed a convoy to carry the prized bull meant to show Msholozhi their respect. In fact, the moment was quite the spectacle and videos of the occasion quickly went viral.

SowetanLIVE reports that many feel the gesture is a show of gratitude for Zuma’s hand in ensuring that eThekwini remained an ANC stronghold in the local government elections. In other words, Zuma is credited as the hand that turned the tide in favour of the ruling party.

Zuma: ANC remaining in power critical for SA

The ex-president told the councillors that it remains of utmost importance that the ANC remains in power. Furthermore, Zuma highlighted the party as the tool in the hands of the black majority, essential to ensure liberation.

In addition to this, Zandile Gumede’s spokesperson has snubbed claims that this gift was an attempt to ensure support ahead of her shot at the ANC regional chair.

Visit purely show of respect for Zuma

The report quoted spokesperson Ntando Khuzwayo as insisting the visit had been purely to check on Zuma and wish him well for the festive season.

Rumours of factionalism were strongly denied. To clarify, Khuzwayo insists that the 100 ANC councillors that arrived for the visit had been seeking guidance. Above all, advice from the veteran politician ahead of their own stint in power was in high demand.

Interestingly, Gumede opted out of attending. The embattled politician is facing corruption charges with a steep R320 million price tag. On the subject of money, Gumede’s spokesperson denies any shady business as far as the bull is concerned.

“We have all contributed from our own salaries to buy this bull as a gift for the former president. We did a symbolic thing, it’s biblical to take your first fruit and give it to the priest. The bull was too big for the trailer we had got and so we had to get another trailer, so that was why we were delayed in getting here.”
