Zolile Sekeleni is charged with helping Thabo Bester, a convicted rapist and killer, escape from the Mangaung jail in May of last year.

Sekeleni was granted bail on condition that he returns to the Port Edward Police Station once a week, stays within the Port Edward magisterial area, and refrains from making contact with any of the State’s witnesses.

On May 16, Sekeleni will return to Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court.

The court warned that if he didn’t show up on that day and didn’t follow his bail rules, a warrant for his arrest would be issued.

Magudumana, Matsoara, and Lipholo were remanded in detention pending their upcoming May 3 and 4 bail hearings.

Magudumana appeared in court wearing a light grey hoodie and a mask that covered her face; it was requested that she removes the mask and pull her jacket hood back, in order for her identification to be verified.

The State has previously said that it is against all three of the defendants being released on bail.

Before discussing the specifics of bail, the State requested that the court order Magudumana appear in person throughout court sessions. The State stated that while it was understandable that she shields her face from the media prior to court proceedings, it was essential that her face be made public and readily visible to the court at all times.

The State argued that the court needed proof that the individual in front of it was, in fact, is Magudumana.
