Some people have no shame: The German suspect accused of killing Madeleine McCann has mocked investigators – with a cartoon he sketched.

In a grim mockery of such a saddening situation, the prime suspect in the Madeleine McCann disappearance has penned a tasteless cartoon to taunt the prosecutors who believe he’s guilty of her murder.

Who is the main suspect in the Madeleine McCann case?

The three-year-old vanished from a Portuguese resort while on holiday with her parents 14 years ago.

One of the most extensive search operations of all time has so far failed to locate Maddy, but it has identified a man known as ‘Christian B’ as a likely suspect. The 44-year-old, currently serving time in a German prison for other crimes, denies the allegations – and has now resorted to belittling investigators.

The cartoon he drew – leaked to local newspaper BILD – depicts the prosecutors paying a fortune teller money to ‘give them something new’ on the Madeleine McCann case. A lawyer can be seen holding a €5 note to pay the clairvoyant, and Christian B has sketched himself looking bemused, while a bench of judges are asleep during the proceedings.

Madeleine McCann: Latest news and updates

Christian B. was sentenced in December 2019 to seven years in jail for the rape of a 72-year-old woman in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz in 2005, the same town where McCann would go missing two years later.

He appealed the sentence over a technicality related to extradition protocol, taking the case to the European Court of Justice (ECJ). The ECJ ruled on September 24 that the conviction was justified, paving the way for Germany’s Federal Court of Justice to dismiss the appeal as unfounded. The prisoner has remained behind bars ever since.

in June 2020, German prosecutors made the stunning announcement that they were also investigating 43-year-old Christian B. in connection with the Madeleine McCann case, saying they have “concrete evidence” he killed the girl. British police are, however, still treating her disappearance as a missing persons case.
