Pietermaritzburg: Two young women arrested for drugs possession

Two young women spent the night in a Pietermaritzburg police cell after being caught in possession of drugs following a tip-off.

Pietermaritzburg’s Mountain Rise police team responded to information about two women who were suspected of dealing in drugs at the Privet Road informal settlement in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands.

The law officers proceeded to visit the identified house, where a search produced a number of drugs including heroin and cocaine worth R25 000.

HEROIN AND COCAINE IN A POOR NEIGHBOURHOOD

Arrive Alive confirmed on their Safe Road Safety website: “The team was following up on information about two women who were dealing drugs. The team proceeded to the premises at the Privet Road informal settlement,” the report said.

“A search was conducted inside the house. Police found 25 pink and white capsules of heroin, eight clear plastic packets containing cocaine powder, and plates containing cocaine powder. The estimated street value of the recovered drugs is R25 000.”

SUSPECTS TO APPEAR IN PIETERMARITZBURG MAGISTRATE’S COURT

Ahead of the court appearance on Tuesday 7 September 2021, police revealed the ages of the suspects. One woman is aged 23 while the other alleged accomplice is 24 years of age.

“Two suspects aged 23 and 24 were placed under arrest for dealing drugs. The suspects are appearing before the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court today,” the statement concluded.
