Mother’s Day tragedy: Woman shot multiple times in Ashburton

The woman was reportedly shot at least ten times in Ashburton by a man known to her after an argument ensued between the two.

KwaZulu-Natal police have reportedly launched an investigation after a woman was shot dead in her vehicle, allegedly after a dispute with a man known to her in Ashburton, minutes before Mother’s Day. 

According to private security company Mi7 National Group at  approximately 23:47, they received a message on an Ashburton community group reporting gunshots being fired from the vicinity of Wally Hayward Drive.  

WOMAN SHOT MULTIPLE TIMES IN ASHBURTON 

Mi7 said Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched, and found members of the community congregating around a vehicle on the same street. 

Reaction Officers found that a woman seated in the passenger seat of the parked vehicle had been shot dead.

“Mi7 Control Room Operators worked quickly to notify the police and medical services, who declared the woman deceased on scene. It is believed she was shot at least ten times,” the company said.

According to the woman’s family members and an eyewitness who was in the vehicle when the incident happened, the woman had attended a family gathering on Wally Hayward Drive and while there she was confronted by a man known to her. 

An argument allegedly ensued between the two, and she was escorted out by the eye witness who was driving her home in her vehicle. 

It is believed the pair were followed by the man, who opened fire on the woman before fleeing the scene. The eye witness was not injured. 

A description of the shooter’s vehicle was circulated, and loaded onto the Mi7 Surveillance Net. Police later found the vehicle abandoned. The matter is under investigation by the police.

A woman named Vera Hammond McKenzie said provided some information on the alleged suspect.

“I would like to clarify that the female is my niece and she was in the car with her 2 brother in laws and the man in question is her soon to be ex husband. This post makes it like a love triangle,” she wrote.
