Woman killed when scooter crashes into a forklift

Paramedics said a woman was killed when her scooter collided with a forklift on Diamond Street in Carletonville.

A woman in her 30s was recently killed when her scooter collided with a forklift on Diamond Street in Carletonville.


According to ER24, paramedics and the Provincial Services arrived at 11h10 on Thursday.

“Paramedics arrived at 11h10 to a woman lying in the middle of the road approximately 5 metres away from her scooter.” 

Medics assessed the woman and found that she had already succumbed to her numerous injuries. Nothing more could be done by paramedics, and she was declared dead.

“The driver of the forklift, fortunately, escaped injury. It is understood that the forklift had been unloading building material from a truck when the collision occurred.”

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

Meanwhile, a 13-year-old boy face a charge of reckless and negligent driving after he allegedly stole his father’s vehicle and was on a joyride when he collided into the side of the mini-bus.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesperson Prem Balram a total of 23 learners between the ages of four and 12 were injured in the accident.

“23 scholars suffered mild to critical injuries after the teenager crashed into the mini-bus transporting them to school on Thursday morning.”

He said residents from Sibisi Street in Kwa Mashu, L Section in KwaZulu-Natal contacted RUSA requesting assistance for the injured.

“Reaction Officers and RUSA Medics were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene at 07:21.”

Balram said an angry mob gathered at the scene and threatened to assault the teenager of the white BMW X3, who was believed to be responsible for the collision.
