Woman killed, three others including children injured in Potch accident

A woman was killed, and three others, including children, were injured in an accident on the N12 outside Potchefstroom on Friday afternoon.

PARAMEDICS FOUND THE WOMAN IN THE DRIVER’S SEAT

According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring a bakkie and a minivan collided on the N12, approximately 20km outside of Potchefstroom towards Klerksdorp.

“ER24 arrived on the scene at 14h46 to find other services already in attendance. A minivan and bakkie were parked on the side of the road a short distance apart.”

He said on closer inspection, paramedics found the body of a woman in her 60s lying in the driver’s seat of the minivan while a 13-year-old girl was seated in the rear.

“A 16-year-old girl was sitting outside the van while the bakkie driver was seen walking around.

“Paramedics assessed the patients and found that the woman in the van had sustained fatal injuries and showed no signs of life.”

TWO TEENAGERS WERE ALSO INJURED

Meiring said the 13-year-old girl was in a serious condition, while the 16-year-old girl and the bakkie driver had sustained moderate injuries.

Paramedics treated the injured and provided the seriously injured girl with pain-relief medication.

He said that once treated, the patients were transported to nearby hospitals for further care.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated accident, two women were killed while fourteen people were injured in a taxi accident on the N17 outside Ermelo earlier this week. 

THE TWO WOMEN WERE DECLARED DEAD ON THE SCENE 

ER24 Emergency Services said the accident happened around 15:30. 

“Two women were killed and fourteen others injured when a taxi rolled on the N17, approximately 20km outside Ermelo, Mpumalanga. ER24 and other services arrived at 15h30 to find the taxi on its side on the side of the road. Several passengers were seen lying all around the vehicle.”

Paramedics quickly assessed the patients and found that two women had sustained fatal injuries in the rollover.
