An 82-year-old woman from New York City was reportedly found breathing at a funeral home a few hours after she was declared dead.

An 82-year-old woman was reportedly found breathing at a funeral home in New York (NYC) nearly three hours after being pronounced dead on Saturday,4 February 2023.

According to Business Insider, the elderly woman was deemed dead at 11:15 at Waters Edge Rehab and Nursing Center in Port Jefferson.

At 13:30, she was transferred to the funeral home. However, she was discovered breathing 40 minutes later, nearly three hours after she was first determined to be dead.

DETAILS STILL UNCLEAR

The woman was taken from the funeral home to the nearest hospital for an examination.

Details of her condition were not available.

INCIDENT REPORTED TO NYC ATTORNEY’S OFFICE

NBC reported that the incident had been referred to New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office.

“This is an awful situation that has caused unnecessary trauma for the impacted resident and her loved ones,” a spokesperson for the attorney general’s office said as quoted by the report.

The nursing home has not commented on the incident.

FUNERAL HOME SAYS IT’S NOT IN THE POSITION TO COMMENT

According to CBS, funeral home officials stated that they are unable to comment on the matter.

“Out of respect for the privacy and confidentiality of the families we are honored to serve, we are not in a position to comment further on this matter,” the report quoted a statement from the funeral home.

ANOTHER WOMAN FOUND BREATHING AT A FUNERAL HOME

This incident occurred shortly after another similar incident occurred at a continuing-care home in Des Moines, Iowa, where a 66-year-old woman was declared dead.

According to The Guardian, the woman died in early January at an Alzheimer’s special care center in Urbandale.

She was taken to a funeral home and discovered still breathing.

The woman was taken to a hospital where she was breathing but unresponsive.

The nursing home was fined $10,000.
