Mohammed Zedan, a man who went missing after he was kidnapped, has been released.

According to anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee, who was one of the first people to report the incident, Zedan was found at a petrol station on the evening of Wednesday, 5 August 2020.

Abramjee: ‘Police are investigating’

At this stage, details surrounding his alleged abduction remain sketch at this stage, however Abramjee said the South African Police Service (SAPS) is still looking into it.

“Mohamed Zedan was kidnapped on 28 July in Fordsburg JHB. He was taken from his father’s Mochachos outlet. It is believed the kidnappers demanded ransom. Zedan was found at a petrol filing station in Smit Street last night. No arrests have been made. Police are investigating”, he tweeted.

Zedan was abducted by four men on Tuesday, 28 July in Fordsburg, Johannesburg, at his father’s Mochachos restaurant.

CCTV footage released after his kidnapping shows Zedan sitting at a table with a man believed to be posing as a patron at the restaurant before another mask-wearing man approaches him and pulls out a gun. It then appears that the other man might have been in on the alleged plan as they are both seen leaving the eatery with the victim.

Police have since called on people to assist them in cracking the case by contacting them on their 10111 crime line. The kidnappers were reportedly driving a black Toyota with the number plate DJ97LX GP.

Zedan’s return home is in the wake of reports of a Joburg businessman who was allegedly abducted – all part of a wide-ranging kidnapping syndicate.

According to reports, the syndicate  is suspected of being involved with other organised crime gangs that are linked to kidnappings around the country.
