As the 2024 National elections draw closer. We ask the question of which political leaders you trust with thefuture of South Africa.

MMUSI MAIMANE

Mmusi Aloysias Maimane was born on 6 June 1980. He is a politician, businessman, and leader of Build One South Africa (BOSA). Maimane is also the former Leader of South Africa’s opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) political party from 10 May 2015 to 23 October 2019.

In his resignation letter, Maimane said the DA is not the vehicle best suited to take forward the vision of building one South Africa for all.

in September 2022 he founded the political party, BOSA and currently serves as the party’s leader.

“Our nation is failing, it is broken… this has to change. We have to move away from the economy that works for a few, to one that works for everybody,” said Malema.

JOHN STEENHUISEN

John Henry Steenhuisen was born on 25 March 1976. He has served as the twentieth leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA) since October 2019.

He started his political career at a young age.

At the age of 22 in 1999, he was elected to the then Durban City Council as the DP councillor for Durban North. He was the youngest municipal councillor at that time.

At the 2000 municipal election, the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality was formed and Steenhuisen was elected as a councillor for the newly established DA.

HERMAN MASHABA

Herman Samtseu Philip Mashaba was born on August 26, 1959. He is a South African politician, entrepreneur and the current president of ActionSA.

Mashaba served as the Mayor of Johannesburg from 2016 to 2019 under the DA.

He is also the founder of the hair product company Black Like Me. He is famous for his background: he grew up struggling against poverty and the apartheid government to open his own hair business, which became the biggest hair brand in South Africa, making him a millionaire.

Mashaba says his party believes in a country where people’s potential to thrive is based on their ingenuity and hard work, regardless of the colour of their skin.

JULIUS MALEMA

Julius Sello Malema was born on 3 March 1981. He is a politician who is a Member of Parliament and the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), which he founded in 2013.

Malema was formerly the President of the African National Congress (ANC) Youth League from 2008 until his expulsion from the party in 2012.

Malema is a vocal advocate of nationalising South African mines and expropriation of land without compensation.
