Where to buy Prime drinks: These stores will be selling them for R39.99
Checkers has partnered with Prime to sell the drink in SA. Due to high demand, customers will be limited to eight purchases per person.

It’s all the rage, and the hype has driven the cost to dizzying heights, but that will not be the case for long because retailer Checkers has announced it will be selling Prime for R39.99 from 1 May.

Checkers to have Prime purchase limit
Prime, which is associated with popular YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul, first launched in the USA, United Kingdom and Australia earlier this year.
When it launched, excited Gen Z customers qued overnight in numbers to get their hands on the drink. The demand drove up the price, as was seen last week when online retailer Takealot was selling one 500ml bottle for hundreds of rands. The price has since dropped to approximately R400.
Checkers said it is Prime’s official South African retail partner and would sell the drink for R39.99.
“From Monday, 1 May 2023, PRIME will be sold at selected Checkers and Checkers Hyper stores and on Sixty60 in the Western Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal. It will roll out to the rest of South Africa during the month,” said the retailer.
There are two Prime drinks: Prime Energy and Prime Hydration. Checkers will sell four flavours of Prime Hydration – Ice Pop, Blue Raspberry, Lemon Lime and Tropical Punch.
Due to the hype, purchases will be limited to eight per customer (two per flavour).
The retailer will be hosting a launch event in collaboration with TikTok at the following stores on 1 May:
- Checkers Canal Walk, Century City, Cape Town – Western Cape (09:00)
- Checkers Hyper Sandton City, Sandton, Johannesburg – Gauteng (09:00)
- Checkers Castle Gate, Pretoria – Gauteng (08:00)
- Checkers Rosebank – Gauteng (08:00)
- Checkers Hyper Menlyn, Pretoria – Gauteng (09:00)
- Checkers Oceans Mall, Umhlanga – KwaZulu-Natal (08:00)
