The days on which beneficiaries of permanent grants will receive their June grant payment have been disclosed by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa).

This comes after the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) published the 2023–24 financial year’s pay-out schedule.

While Sassa hopes to pay subsidies to recipients on consecutive days in June 2023, this is not feasible.

Each month, Sassa provides permanent subsidies to more than 18 million recipients.

The Older Person Grant, Disability Grant, War Veterans Grant, Care Dependency Grant, Foster Child Grant, Child Support Grant, Child Support Grant Top Up, and Grant-in-Aid are among Sassa’s permanent grants.

Beneficiaries will begin receiving payments on Friday, June 2, 2023, with grants for older people. Grant payments will begin on Monday, June 5, 2023.

SASSA’S SCHEDULE FOR THE WHOLE OF 2023

According to van Zyl  (2023), elderly, child, and disability grant payments are only made during the first week of the month.

All other funds are then paid out, and the recipients of Social Relief of Distress (SRD) payments come next.

Except for SRD participants, all other beneficiaries may still pick up their packages at South African Post Office locations.

JUNE 2023 SASSA PAYMENT DATES

Older Persons Grant:

Friday, 2 June 2023

Disability Grant:

Monday, 5 June 2023

Children’s Grant:

Tuesday, 6 June 2023

There is no set payment date for the unique COVID-19 SRD, according to the agency.

It’s important to keep in mind that once the money is made accessible, it won’t have to be used right soon.

Until a customer is ready to withdraw money, all amounts owing to them remain in their accounts. This still applies to all four of the aforementioned awards.

Beneficiaries of social handouts with gold cards have been informed by the agency that they would continue to receive their awards as usual till the end of the year.

EXPIRED SASSA CARDS HAVE BEEN GIVEN AN EXTENSION

All grant holders with gold cards that have expired or are about to expire were urged to pick up their replacement gold cards at post offices around the nation by the agency last month (van Zyl 2023).

But as of December 31, 2023, the Payment Association of South Africa (PASA) has extended the validity of expired SASSA/Postbank Gold Cards.

This implies that beneficiaries of social grants are not required to obtain new cards or switch banks in order to continue using their expired cards for social grants payment transactions at ATMs and merchant point of sale (POS) withdrawals and purchases.

Themba Matlou, the executive manager for SASSA in Gauteng and Mpumalanga, has warned recipients of social grants who have gold cards not to worry because their cards will only expire at the end of the year.

According to Matlou, beneficiaries are free to select their preferred payment method.
