The official payment dates for SASSA recipients in the month of May have been confirmed by the agency – but South Africans will have to say goodbye to one of the most popular funds on the roster. The R350 grant officially expires on Friday 30 April – meaning that no more new payments will be made to those claiming the SRD benefit.
When is the last day to collect my R350 grant?
Following two temporary extensions, the R350 grant has now reached the end of the road. However, its spirit is likely to live on: The government is weighing up how to implement a ”Basic Income Grant’ that can act as a safety net for over six million people. It has an enormous amount of support from ministers, but the ANC needs billions to fund the project.
We’re assured that a BIG will become a reality soon – but R350 grant claimants could face ‘at least a month or two’ without any sort of financial support. Meanwhile, SASSA has clarified that people will still be able to collect SRD grants AFTER 30 April, so there’s no rush for beneficiaries to beat the deadline: It just means no new payments will be generated.

SASSA payment dates for May 2021
Earlier this week, SASSA published the exact date each social grant would be made available for collection in May 2021. It’s worth noting that people who receive more than one handout will be paid BOTH at the same time.
- Tuesday 4 May: OLDER PERSONS GRANTS will be paid into accounts.
- Wednesday 5 May: DISABILITY GRANTS will be made available by SASSA.
- Thursday 6 May: ALL OTHER GRANTS go online. You can still collect April’s R350 grant payments at any time.
