Police investigators in Keimoes are still trying to piece together the brutal killing of a woman whose cut-up body was found in a pit toilet on Sunday.

Where is Keimoes?

Keimoes is a small town in the Northern Cape that lies along the Orange River. Nestled between Upington and Kakamas, Keimoes is largely an agricultural town that is famous for producing sultanas and wine.

What we know about the murder

The quiet town was rocked by the gruesome discovery of the woman’s body. According to police spokesperson Mohale Ramatseba, authorities were called to the premises of a 25-year-old male after locals discovered the chopped-up remains of a female in his pit toilet.

Due to the gruesome nature of the crime, most of the details have not been released. However, a local radio station in Keimoes, Overvaal Stereo 96.1, has revealed that the woman’s body was found on Sunday evening.

Preliminary reports also indicate that her neck was broken before she was dismembered. Key elements of the investigation will include the following: The key thing for investigators will be determining;

  • When she was last seen alive;
  • Estimated time of death ruled by a pathologist; and
  • The cause of her death.

Ramatseba confirmed that the 25-year-old male, believed to be the woman’s boyfriend, has been placed under arrest and charged with the murder.

At this time, no indication has been made on whether the suspect made any confession to the crime. The motive – which is still unknown – behind the heinous act is currently at the centre of the murder probe.

Ramatseba has revealed, though, that the suspect will appear in court soon and that a murder charge has been registered with the Keimoes police, suggesting that there is enough evidence to pursue a case against the 25-year-old.

The suspect’s identity will only be revealed once he has appeared in court.
