‘Leave it’: Dlamini-Zuma blasted for ‘callous remarks’ on service delivery

The DA is upset with Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma’s attempt to ‘brush over’ the devastating impact that ANC factionalism is having on local communities.

The DA has been left stumped by Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma’s nonchalant reaction to issues regarding service delivery in North West. Shortly after the COGTA Minister admitted that ANC factionalism was ‘hampering’ progress in a host of municipalities, she then suggested that the matter ‘should be left for later’.

Sluggish service delivery: Dlamini-Zuma slammed for ‘dismissing impact of ANC infighting’

As the Convenor of the Inter-Ministerial Task Team (IMTT) in North West, it is Dlamini-Zuma’s responsibility to get things going in the right direction. However, her desire to push the matter to one side has upset her political opponents…

  • – Dlamini-Zuma before the Ad-Hoc Committee on Section 100 Intervention on Monday.
  • – Seven Local Municipalities in NW – including Tswaing, Ratlou, and Matlosana, are listed as “critical”.
  • – In Tswaing and Ditsobotla, courts have become ‘primary decision-makers’ over the fate of these municipalities
  • – The minister conceded that ANC political infighting is ‘paralysing service delivery’ within municipalities.
  • – However, NDZ dealt with the matter by saying ‘we will leave it there’ – and her flippant remarks have stunned the DA.

‘It is time for the ANC to step aside in North West’ – DA

Carin Visser forms part of the Ad-Hoc Committee on Section 100 Intervention. The MP branded Dlamini-Zuma ‘careless and callous’ for responding in the manner she did – and there are now calls to remove the ANC from local governance:

“Her careless attitude about the water shortages, overflowing sewage and poor waste management is characteristically callous, but the fact that her apathy is not called to order, also reflects the ANC leadership’s disregard of the suffering North West residents have to endure as a result of the party’s failure to govern.”

“The Minister admitted that these seven municipalities are in ICU due to the ANC factionalism, but offered no solutions on how the instability in Local Government would be addressed. The rule of law is now being disregarded, and the ruling party must now step aside to allow the DA to get things done.”
