If something sounds too good to be true, that’s probably because it is: SASSA has moved to shut down fraudulent claims made by a social media page, which promised to fast-track R350 grant payments and process ‘triple payments’.

Is SASSA giving triple play to R350 grant recipients? No…

The dodgy message has been flagged on Wednesday, and it exploits a serious situation. Many people ARE still waiting on multiple payments from SASSA – and some have received more than one payment in May, due to the result of a backlog. However, ‘triple payments’ are not a deliberate intervention by the agency. The false message reads:

“Attention if you haven’t received your R350 for the [past] months. Many people yesterday received R700 [from] SASSA and some received triple pay of R1 050. Check your next payment date by clicking this link. Send us a message and we will pay you within five minutes.” | Fake SASSA message

SRD payments: Latest news and updates

The R350 grant came to an end on 30 April. No new payments have been made since then, and SASSA is only giving handouts to those who applied before the deadline. The only SRD transactions from the agency are essentially ‘catch-up payments’, and in an official statement, SASSA explained that those still waiting ‘will be paid as soon as possible’.

“The below information is NOT true and does not come from SASSA. All special COVID-19 SRD grant beneficiaries who have been approved but not yet paid can rest assured that they will be paid as soon as possible.”
