The time has almost arrived: Cyril Ramaphosa, as one of the ANC’s longest-serving members and its current leader, will make his first appearance at the State Capture Inquiry this week – and he’ll have a tough crowd for good measure…

When will Cyril Ramaphosa attend the State Capture Inquiry? Dates and durations revealed

After a bit of confusion, we’ve finally been able to establish the official dates on which Cyril Ramaphosa will attend the Zondo Commission. The 68-year-old will testify in two parts, starting this Wednesday, before returning to the hot-seat in May to field more questions from DCJ Raymond Zondo and his legal colleagues.

  • On Wednesday 28 April and Thursday 29 April, President Ramaphosa will testify AS LEADER OF THE ANC
  • On Thursday 13 May and Friday 14 May, President Ramaphosa will testify AS LEADER OF SOUTH AFRICA
  • – These two distinctions will allow Cyril to address different sets of questions, from two alternate capacities.
  • – In total, the head of state will be expected to testify for four days – let the grilling commence!

The president’s biggest critics WILL be watching…

Ramaphosa, however, may have been wishing he chose his dates more wisely: With many COVID-19 regulations now relaxed in South Africa, the gallery in Johannesburg can welcome a number of observers to the State Capture Inquiry. Amongst them will be his fierce political rival, John Steenhuisen, and several other bigwigs from the DA:

“On Wednesday, 28 April 2021, DA Federal Leader, John Steenhuisen MP, DA Gauteng Provincial Leader, Solly Msimanga MPL, DA Gauteng Provincial Chairperson, Frederik Nel MPL, and DA Shadow Minister of Public Service and Administration, Leon Schreiber MP, will be attending the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture.”

“This will be to watch the first testimony of President Cyril Ramaphosa. Steenhuisen will be available outside the Commission both before the sitting, and during the lunch break for interviews on the party’s expectations from the testimony, commission proceedings – and the DA’s alternative to cadre deployment in the public service.”
