A cold front made landfall in the Western Cape and is expected to bring heavy to the province on Thursday, 25 May.

Rainfall forecast during cold front
The weather service issued a Yellow Level 3 warning for rain, which is valid until 23:59. Flooding of roads and settlements are a possibility, as well as traffic disruptions and motor vehicle accidents due to flooded roads.

“If possible, stay indoors and off the roads, avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams where water is above your ankles. If trapped in a vehicle during a flood, abandon it and climb to higher ground,” instructed the weather service.

According to live rain maps from Ventusky, the cold front will sweep to the Eastern parts of South Africa throughout the day and reach Gqeberha and Bloemfontein by 23:00. The rain will be concentrated in the Western Cape for most of the day.
“The bulk of the rainfall is expected on Thursday morning. Rainfall accumulations may reach 40 to 60mm with the potential of 80mm in the mountainous areas,” said the weather service.
