Western Cape ANC in disarray after Luthuli House suspends Fransman, Jacobs

Not the best time to be putting the party’s already embattled provincial branch under administration, but better late than never… right?

Wrong. Luthuli House has had to send in ‘caretakers’ to administer the defunct Western Cape ANC; after sexual assault charges against provincial chairperson Marius Fransman and assault charges against secretary Faiez Jacobs forced the party to suspend both pending the outcome of investigations against them.

The provincial power, true to form, pounced on this and City of Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille took the first swipe.

“The DA notes that the Western Cape ANC has now officially been put under administration by Luthuli House, with Gwede Mantashe announcing this afternoon that caretakers will be deployed to the Western Cape ANC because it is currently leaderless,” she said in a statement.

Mayor De Lille added that Truman Prince — the ANC’s mayor of Beaufort West who was caught soliciting state funding for the ruling party’s 2016 provincial government election campaign – should have been suspended as well.

“The ANC was silent today about the dark clouds of criminality hanging over the head of Prince, when today the ANC should have done the right thing and suspended him.”

News24 reports that De Lille accused the ANC in the Western Cape of putting their own interests before those of the people they’re meant to be serving.

“To the ANC Western Cape, the ANC comes first and everyone else comes second.”
