Weather: Updated warnings issued for Kwazulu-Natal

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) have issued urgent weather warnings for parts of Kwazulu-Natal. Here’s what you should know.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) have issued urgent warnings for parts of Kwazulu-Natal. Damaging winds and waves are expected to strike large parts of the coast from today.

While Cape Town has been hard hit by storms, the next affected areas include Durban and Port Shepstone.

Here’s what you should know about the weather warnings issued for Kwazulu-Natal towns.

Which KZN areas are affected?

The SA Weather Service have issued warnings for some of Kwazulu-Natal.

The affected areas include Port Shepstone and Ray Nkoyeni. Scottburgh, Richards Bay, and Durban are also some of the areas that are on the SAWS Warnings list.

These areas might experience damaging winds and waves, according to the official warnings page.

Citizens are advised to avoid the coast and beachfront. Waves and winds could cause property damage, but could also make it difficult to travel if you have made any plans.

Remember that clear skies aren’t always an indication of the conditions: storms might take just a few minutes to form where the sky was clear before.

Damaging Winds: Weather warnings for KZN

The SAWS-issued warnings for Kwazulu-Natal also includes ‘damaging winds’ for Durban.

South Africans are warned to be aware of strong winds, which could cause damage to property and add to the potential danger.

If you are caught in strong winds, weather services advises you to find immediate shelter. Avoid standing near roads or tracks, because gusts of wind can easily make you lose your footing. Flying objects like branches also become a serious danger in storm conditions.
