Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Central Karoo of the Western Cape, the Northern Cape (excluding the extreme western parts) and the western parts of the Free State and North-West.

Heatwave conditions with persistently high temperatures are expected in places over the eastern parts of the Northern Cape, Free State, North-West and Gauteng until at least Saturday.

Weather forecast and UV index for all provinces

Gauteng: Fine and hot but very hot in the north, becoming partly cloudy with isolated afternoon thundershowers.

UVB sunburn index: High.

Mpumalanga: Partly cloudy in the east, otherwise fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy in the west with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme west.

Limpopo: Fine and hot but very hot in the west.

North-West Province: Fine and hot to very hot becoming partly cloudy with isolated thundershowers in the extreme east.

Free State: Fine and hot to very hot becoming partly cloudy with isolated thundershowers in the extreme east.

Northern Cape: Cloudy and cool along the coast with early morning mist where it will become partly cloudy, otherwise fine and warm to hot, but very hot in places in the west. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly

Western Cape:  Partly cloudy and cool along the coastal areas, with cloudy periods mainly morning and evening, otherwise fine and warm, but hot over the eastern interior. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-westerly along the south-west coast in the morning, otherwise fresh to strong south-westerly.

UVB index: Extreme.

Western half of the Eastern Cape: Morning fog patches along the coast where it will be cool, otherwise fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy in the evening. The wind along the coast will be moderate south westerly

Eastern half of the Eastern Cape: Cloudy with morning fog patches south of the escarpment, otherwise fine and warm, but hot north of the escarpment. It will become partly cloudy with isolated afternoon thunderstorms along the southern Drakensberg. The wind along the coast will be moderate south westerly becoming light south easterly in the afternoon

KwaZulu-Natal: Partly cloudy with morning fog over the eastern interior, otherwise warm but hot to very hot in places in the north. It will become partly cloudy in the west with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers in the west and south coast. The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly to south-westerly south of Mandeni, otherwise easterly to north-easterly spreading to the south by evening.
