The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a very cold, wet and windy advisory for the Western and Northern Cape on Thursday, 11 August, ahead of the weekend. The frigid conditions are expected to be the result of a series of cold fronts.

According to the advisory, which is effective from 10:00 on Friday, 12 August until Sunday, 14 August at midnight, the maximum temperature will be below 12C from Friday evening.
The series of cold fronts are expected to affect the western parts of South Africa over the weekend with the wet, windy and cold conditions to be felt from Friday.
Saturday is expected to be the coldest day, while Sunday will be the coldest morning, said the weather service. However, the temperature is expected to recover slowly throughout the day.
There is also the possibility of light snowfall over the mountains in the Western Cape and the southern high-lying areas of the Northern Cape from Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning.
