The South African Weather Service (SAWS) said the wet weather, which has taken hold of parts of the country, will persist for the rest of the week. As the weather system spreads towards the east, so will the risk of flooding.

WET WEATHER TO PERSIST

Most parts of the country have been experiencing rainfall over the past week or so. It has been quite severe in some places.

“This trend is set to continue for the rest of the week, as a cut-off low-pressure system dominates the central and eastern parts of the country. This will result in scattered to widespread thundershowers from today Tuesday until Saturday,’ said the weather service on Tuesday, 1 November.

The possibility of flooding is associated with this large-scale weather service. The central interior is especially at risk on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The risk of flooding will gradually move to the east during the week and affect KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and Mpumalanga by Friday.

“In addition, there is also a possibility of severe thunderstorms, and warnings for the possible affected areas will be issued accordingly,” added the weather service.

The cut-off low-pressure system is expected to leave South Africa in the northeast late on Saturday, 5 November.
