Downpours, damaging winds and the possibility of localised flooding reported over large parts of Gauteng, according to Johannesburg weather forecast.

According to the Johannesburg weather report, severe thunderstorms are “forming in a line” across the southern and western parts of Gauteng. Damaging winds and hail are expected, and some areas are at risk of experiencing localised flooding.
According to Gauteng Weather, areas prone to flooding include Alexandra, Bedfordview, Benoni, Fourways, Joburg Central, and Soweto, to name a few.
Severe downpours and wind speeds of up to 17 miles per hour are expected, and motorists are advised to use headlights and drive with care.

Visibility is reduced due to “blowing sand and dust observed over parts of Gauteng due to thunderstorms,” the SAWS warns, while Arrive Alive issued a reminder for motorists to drive cautiously.

Raymond Cruase reported that a “big storm is approaching Vanderbijlpark as well.
The storm is expected to last until 23:00 and potential threats include large hail, damaging winds and localised flooding across Gauteng. Users on Twitter were initially skeptical of the forecast, but multiple reports are confirming severe winds in Cresta and Northriding, as well as heavy downpour towards the south.
Noxy said she’s “currently in southern Gauteng about to head north and the storm has started,” while Music Express Radio urged their listeners to “take cover from the storm.”
According to photos submitted by storm chaser Adrian Munro, and by Twitter user Martin Bowler, storm clouds are gathering over Lanseria as well.

Facebook user Geraldine Clulee said it’s raining and “the wind is blowing quite bad” in Fochville. She urged motorists driving on the N12 towards Potch to “please drive with extreme caution. She that the roads are very wet and the winds are only making it worse.
