We hope our readers in Gauteng have kept their umbrellas and overcoats to hand: Storm clouds are gathering over the province, and the Johannesburg weather forecast is bringing bucket-loads of rain with it.
As Ventusky have predicted, up to 50mm is scheduled to hit the region over the next seven days. Pretoria, just up the road, will also get some downpours. But it is Johannesburg taking centre-stage for the week ahead. Here’s what locals can expect between now and next Friday:
A rather temperate day awaits Joburgers over the weekend, with pleasant conditions allowing for a 28C-day to flourish on Saturday afternoon. Sun chasers, this forecast was made for you.
Spots of rain will begin in the late afternoon, without really making a significant contribution to the weekly rainfall accumulation. The CBD looks set to miss out, with neighbouring suburbs on for nothing more than 1mm.
Things start to pick up at the beginning of next week. Around 2mm will fall across Johannesburg during the afternoon, and those in the south-west of the province may even get to hear a few claps of thunder towards the evening.
Now we’re talking. A few spots of rain in the morning will pave the way for storms later at night, with a chance of thunder and lightning hitting the CBD on Tuesday. The rainfall will carry on into the early hours of Wednesday, and Johannesburg looks set for 10mm of precipitation – most of which will fall between 21:00 – 00:00.
Between 16 – 18mm is predicted to fall, starting from a flurry at mid-day and showers graduating into downpours by 18:00. Katlehong and Nigel are on course to get more than 20mm.
Here’s where our Johannesburg weather forecast concludes: After a few solid days of deluges, we say goodbye to the rain. In the early hours of Thursday morning, between 1-2 mm will sprinkle the city. Most remnants of rainfall will be gone by 6:00
