Things in Westbury have calmed down after Police Minister Bheki Cele visited the Johannesburg township this week. However, we can’t forget this moment, when an angry protester grabbed the microphone from the SABC reporter and started unleashing all the vitriol you can imagine.

Of course, we understand that emotions and tensions have been extremely high in Westbury recently. Residents have had enough of living in fear and under the rule of gangsterism in the community.

They took to the streets to protest against violence, calling on Cele and Ramaphosa to come forth and address their issues.

The Police Minister heeded the call and changed the mood in the community to calm when he promised to investigate the police station in Sophiatown that is allegedly in cohorts with gangs. He also made it very clear that the problems faced by the Westbury community would be laid to rest in a week.

While the time ticks on, we had to look back at the events that stood out from this very eventful protest. Lopang Alamu is the SABC reporter that has been covering the protests for the news channel.

She obviously did not see any of this coming. In an update that she was delivering to SABC news anchor, Leanne Manas, she was bulldozed off the microphone by an angry protester who dished out all the cuss words you can imagine.

Things got to a point where the programme director was forced to cut the feed, leaving Leanne in a state of utter disbelief. We are glad to know that Alamu left that situation unharmed.
