When the country’s Deputy President and the ANC Secretary General chose to publically speak out about Zuma’s reshuffle, many felt a sense of positivity and a belief that this would finally be the time that the ANC gets rid of Jacob Zuma. People thought Zuma had finally gone too far and shot himself in the foot with the ANC. How wrong it appears those people were.

Today, the ANC held a press conference to report back on their findings from yesterday’s National Working Committee meeting, the findings aren’t encouraging for those who are anti-Zuma. In short, those who had spoken out against Zuma, seem to have been forced to backtrack by his camp. (a very large group of the ANC)

Zuma has a camp FULL of hardcore loyalists, he has the ANC Youth League, the majority of the ANC NEC, (The NEC is made up of over 104 members) half the ANC Top 6 and now he also has the ANC MK Veterans from Kwazulu-Natal. The vets held their own press conference today and they are ready to protect the ANC and President Jacob Zuma, no matter the costs.

KZN chairperson of the MKMVA, Themba Mavundla, has said that they are willing to go all out.

“In short we are saying we are saying we are ready to defend the ANC, its democratically elected president, President Zuma, with our lives. We call on all true democrats to be vigilant, not to allow any enemies to destroy our movement.”

Mavundla has also said that they will soon be sending 600 “combat ready” cadres to protect ANC headquarters Luthuli House.

The Democratic Alliance has today laid incitement charges against the ANC. The charges come after last night’s pro-Zuma rally, hosted by the ANC Youth League in Germiston. At the march, multiple speakers mentioned the use of sjamboks against those who march against Zuma on Friday. The DA was previously set to march to ANC headquarters Luthuli House, they have since changed their decision after consulting with other opposition parties.
