But was this a tornado?

THE QUESTION IS STILL – WAS THIS, IN FACT, A TORNADO?

According to The Weather Hooligan, Juandre Vorster, this could have instead been a downdrafts air displacement.

Juandre is a weather lover and meteorological hobbyist.

This would not be the first time that a mini tornado touched down near Bloemfontein in the Free State. In 2019 uprooted trees, as well as damage to power lines and farming equipment, were reported after the mini tornado.

Meanwhile, a landspout tornado was spotted in the Franklin District in KwaZulu-Natal last year.

According to Annette Botha, VoxWeather forecaster, landspouts typically are short-lived and weaker than a tornado that forms from a supercell BUT can still cause extensive damage and loss of life.
