In the video on Facebook, which has since gone viral, Hofmeyr said his organisation would not bow a knee to the EFF “and their national shutdown on 20 March 2023”.
Hofmeyr told South Africans to go about their business as usual and not to feel intimidated by the EFF.

“If you work, go to work; if you are not working, go fishing. Open a cold beer and enjoy the long weekend. Do not allow politicians to intimidate you. We know who we are and where we come from. We will stand strong,” says Hofmeyr.
He then turned his attention to Julius and said he would not tell them what to do.
“Julius, you will not tell us when our children can go to school. You will not tell our people when to open or close their shops. You will not decide when essential service members will be safe or noted. You will not decide when our ports will be operational or not.”

Hofmeyr continues to say that neither the EFF nor Julius Malema will dictate to bittereinders on the day of the national shutdown and that Melama is not God.
“Malema will not dictate to truck divers when to be on the road or not; you are not God,” says Bittereinders’ Hofmeyr

“You are not a leader; you are a politician who barely got 10% in the last national election. How do you think it is possible that a cripple economy can survive a national shutdown. You are not in control; you are desperate.”
Devon Hofmeyr
Hofmeyr told Malema that when things go wrong during the national shutdown, and people die, he will not take responsibility as the EFF leader.
Meanwhile, the South African Police say lawlessness by the EFF, or anyone, will not be tolerated on the day of the national shutdown.
