The relevant authorities will investigate the circumstances leading up to the incident on Thursday.

Johannesburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said they received information that three workers from a nearby Golf Course were trapped inside a stormwater drainage system.

“One of the workers was rescued and he sustained minor injuries. He was transported to a nearby healthcare facility for further medical care.

“Unfortunately, the other two men lost their lives, confirmed dead on the scene. The men were trying to drain water from the stormwater when the area caved in on them, and they were trapped inside.”

The names, ages and identities of the two workers were yet known on Friday afternoon.
