It’s not uncommon to see a meeting at Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) descend into chaos, and the most recent one had mayor, Athol Trollip right in the firing line as a resident had to be pulled away from him as a municipal delegation met with Walmer residents last night.

The municipality had scheduled the meeting held at the Walmer Multi Purpose Centre, in order to outline the draft Integrated Development Plan (IDP), but a certain faction of residents disrupted the proceedings, resulting in chairs flying around as things took a violent turn.

In a video published by Herald LiveTrollip gets closely acquainted with a man in a pink T-shirt, who looks ready to come into blows before being pushed off the mayor.

It’s reported that the brawl occurred when a group of residents, clad in ANC tops vowed that they would not allow the meeting to forge ahead, and started flinging chairs and tossing tables over.

The unidentified man was at the forefront of the chaos, as he told residents that the meeting would not go ahead.

“This is not about you. What we are saying is we will never accept the white man,” he was heard saying.

Trollip attempted to address the group, who were not having any of it, and that’s when the scuffle occurred.

This is not the first time meetings in the area were disrupted, as things also took a violent turn last week. Trollip vowed to get the ANC top brass involved, including President Cyril Ramaphosa, as he believed the chaos has been orchestrated.

“I am typing up the letter right now,” he said.

“The president and the ANC chairman can’t just sit there in their ivory towers – they must take action. Not one ANC leader has condemned these actions.”

The NMB Mayor is not a very popular man in some factions, particularly among the ANC and the EFF, who were at the forefront of bringing an unsuccessful motion of no confidence against him.
