This violence and property damage is saddening to watch. Unacceptable.
This past weekend saw local PSL teams Mamelodi Sundowns go head to head with Orlando Pirates. Things did not go well, AT ALL. Sundowns spent the match absolutely dismantling Pirates, in fact Sundowns put not two or three goals past them but SIX. Soon after the score hit 6-0 some Pirates fans lost it.
It began with the ripping up of seats and ended with a massive brawl erupting on the field. Pirates coaching staff had to run for their life as their own fans hurled Vuvuzelas and chairs at them. TV Broadcast cables were also ripped up in a show of frustration.
Police vans rushed onto the scene to stop fans beating each other, soon after ambulances arrived to take the injured to hospital. This carnage is disappointing for all and Orlando Pirates officials have since come forward to call out their supporters. Soccer hooliganism is nothing new though, in Europe barricades are set up in order to came rival fans apart.
