Good heavens, it has been utterly chaotic on Tuesday. The SONA Debate has matched the intensity of Thursday’s State of the Nation Address. Only this time, the EFF – and Julius Malema – were given the boot.

Julius Malema, Cyril Ramaphosa accused of domestic abuse

Proceedings descended into farce as soon as Julius Malema took to the podium. He was accused of beating his wife by Boy Mamabolo, an ANC MP who accused him of something similar last week. This proved to be the waving of a “Red Beret” to a raging bull, and Juju waited before exacting his revenge.

After finishing his pre-planned speech, Malema then dealt with the accusations that he was a perpetrator of gender-based violence. He rejected the claims outright, and told Mamabolo to “sue him for R1 million” if he’s so sure that the EFF leader raises his hand to his partner. That wasn’t the biggest blockbuster moment, though.

SONA Debate descends into chaos

The firebrand politician claimed that he knew of many ANC MPs who abused their partners, and said the spiral goes all the way to the top. To the absolute amazement of the house, Julius Malema said that Cyril Ramaphosa was guilty of beating up his late wife Nomazizi…

The chambers erupted in protest, but Malema continued:

“No, I don’t beat up my wife. But can you answer the question, Mr President? Ramaphosa has a history of beating up his late wife. I don’t have a history of abusing women, I have a history love. President Zuma can confirm that Ramaphosa’s wife used to complain to him about Cyril’s behaviour.”

“When I spoke here during the SONA Debate last year, anyone who has never beaten his wife in the past 25 years must raise his hand and I said I can do that because I have no history of such things.

Watch the EFF get kicked out of the house for “wifebeater” comments here:

The house speaker immediately ejected the EFF from Parliament, showing less patience than Thandi Modise did on Thursday night. Julius Malema was directed the the back of the house, and he was followed by his loyal comrades. Eish, it really does look like this year is going to be a messy one in the National Assembly.
