Cape Town beachgoers had to fight off a seal who charged at and attacked a boy and a women in the shallow waters at Clifton beach on Tuesday.

As a customary over the festive season period, South Africans flock in hordes to beaches all over the country. But one such outing turned into a ghastly experience when a seal launched an attack on two unsuspecting people.

In raw video footage captured by another beachgoer, the seal can be seen entering the water and making a beeline for a boy who was playing in the waves.

The mammal manages to dragged the screaming child off his feet. Two men can then be seen rushing to the boy’s rescue and they quickly manage to separate the seal and the child. A lifeguard on duty is then heard urging swimmers to get out of the water.

But while people rush to safety, a women ignores the lifeguard’s warning and continues swimming. The seal duly makes his way over to where the woman is floating and latches onto her arm before biting at her lower body. Three men (different from the duo that helped the boy) bravely re-enter the water to save the screaming woman.

After separating the seal and the woman, two of the men tend to the woman, while the third grabs hold of the angry mammal. He walks to the edge of the water and then swings the seal back into the deep side before making his way to safety.

On Monday, a shark washed ashore at Strand beach, another prominent swimming spot in Cape Town.

The small shark is in ankle deep water and a man is seen grabbing the fish with both hands. It is unclear whether the sharks was safely put back into the deeper water as the video cuts off when people start cheering the man for taking hold of the fish.
