The violence between Ubers and meter taxi drivers is scary. Earlier this month, an Uber driver whose car was set on fire died from his injuries.

Anyone who has ever used the service up in Jozi will tell you a story or two of drivers telling them how scared they are of simply doing their jobs. It’s hectic.

Now, footage has emerged of an incident that took place at the Mall of Africa earlier in July. The video was Tweeted by Yusuf Ambramjee.

The video shows a scuffle between drivers, seemingly in full view of police officers in uniform, who appear to stand by and do nothing.

Uber responded asking Abramjee to contacted them while the Mall of Africa confirmed the incident and that no one was injured. They said they are “working closely with SAPS”.

The increasing violence has resulted in several “no-go” zones for Uber

Summit Club in Hillbrow, Royal Park in Joubert Park, and the CBD (specifically around the Carlton Centre) is bad. All Gautrain stations (Park Station, Rosebank, Sandton, Marlboro, Centurion, Hatfield and Pretoria) are also dangerous. Trouble flares up intermittently, but at Park Station there is always trouble. Unfortunately, the malls have also become targeted, Eastgate, Mall of Africa and Southgate have had some reports of violence, The Star reported.
