What an ordeal this must have been for the victim: In yet another shocking crime caught on video, a man was shot and injured by two men for supposedly refusing to give up his cellphone.

According to anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee, who shared the clip on Twitter, the incident occurred in the Johannesburg CBD on the corner of President and Goud streets. The area is considered a crime spot and is infamous for mostly muggings.

CELLPHONE ROBBERS POUNCE ON VICTIM

In the clip, the would be robbers are seen pouncing on the man, attempting to grab from him what is believed to be a cellphone, but he never surrenders. At some point, one of the robbers shoots at him and the man falls to the ground.

The suspects then walk away and the video ends. It isn’t clear where exactly the man was shot, but it doesn’t appear to have been on any vital organ. So we’re hoping he should be fine.

The extent of crime in the JHB CBD is certainly not lost on many, including those who commented on the clip. One Twitter user blamed foreign nationals for the shooting, while another bemoaned the relevant law enforcement agencies for not manning the area as a way to prevent such crimes from happening.

“@JoburgMPD @SAPoliceService why don’t send new recruits to this areas knowing full well how dangerous they (are) your presence alone stops nonsense like this.   Focus your energy on this rough street than hunting down foreigners,” they said.

One voiced their concern for the victim of the shooting and called on anyone who might know the suspects to come forward.

“Looking at the footage I wonder whether the CRIME victim survived the shooting. How I wish those who know the perpetrators can come forward and assist with the arrest. This could happen to anyone at any moment. if anyone knows these guys, help us to get them arrested,” they said.
