TCF said: “It’s been years with Mooifontein cemetery standard deteriorating in front of our eyes. Now it’s time we stand up as abahlali base Tembisa, and do something”.

“Let’s ensure our ancestors resting is a clean and dignified environment. Other critical matters regarding the cemetery will be addressed.”

MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY ADHERE TO THE CALL

The community came out in numbers bearing cleaning equipment to address the litter problem at the cemetery.

The Tembisa Community Forum admitted to the realisation that the amount of litter and poor condition that the cemetery has been under requires a more significant effort.

“It’s not going to be a one-day job, but from today we are reclaiming our ancestors’ resting place and restoring dignity.”

After spending hours on every corner of the cemetery, Mooifontein was left in a pleasing manner.

“Siyabonga bahlali [Thank you residents] for coming out to join the first of our cemeteries cleaning campaigns. There’s more to come. The TCF leadership is also planning to engage with the community that resides next to the cemetery and other stakeholders.
Let’s unite and build a better Tembisa for ourselves,” TCF cited future plans.
