Watch staff at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital put out buckets, linen, and hospital gowns as the rain comes through the roof in a hospital ward on Monday, 13 February 2023.

A patient who asked to remain anonymous sent a video to The South African of what it looks like in her ward.

There are buckets all over the Steve Biko Academic Hospital ward floor to catch the rain.

She is on the 9th floor of the hospital. She said she wanted to go to the bathroom this morning, and as she got off her hospital bed, she almost slipped and fell.

“I could have been seriously injured if I fell,” she said.

She said staff members had to move some of the beds and patients to avoid them getting wet as rain was coming done from the roof of the Steve Bik

According to another patient, rain is coming through the roof in a few wards at the hospital. She said it had been the case since the rain started last week.

Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mathabo Mathebula said they are trying their best to attend to affected areas.

Mathebula said they would only be able to assess the damage and fix it when the rain stops.

Meanwhile, the City of Tshwane, Emergency Services Department closed several streets and the End Street Bridge in Centurion.

Tshwane Emergency Services Deputy Chief Charles Mabaso warned motorists that the End Street Bridge in Centurion is also close to motorists driving 4×4 vehicles and asked that they not even attempt to cross the bridge.

Motorists must also note flooding in Rabie Street and John Vorster Drive in Centurion.
